16 * MALE * FIRELORD * FIREBENDER/SWORDSMAN * FIRE NATION
THE PERSON-
Honestly, assuming you've actually watched an episode of Avatar, I shouldn't have to explain to you who Zuko is. In fact, you should understand why explaining him is far from an easy thing to do. Zuko has always been an extremely conflicted individual, torn between his innate instincts and the things he was taught growing up as a fire nation royal- both of which ultimately shape his character. Unlike his sister, he never had anything handed to him. He always had to fight. And because of that, for his age, Zuko is a very hardened, independent person who doesn't take his life for granted.
When Zuko was eleven years old, his father basically signed his death certificate by requesting that he become Fire Lord over his brother Iroh. Because Iroh had lost a son, the fitting punishment was that Ozai would be forced to take tthe life of his own. And he was going to do it, too. Allegedly, when Zuko's mother found out she made a compromise with Ozai to murder the Fire Lord and change the name on his will. The next morning she was gone without a trace, and Zuko the new heir to the fire nation throne.
Zuko took his position seriously. Without a doubt, he loved his country, and he was determined to be a good prince, and to make his father proud. But he wasn't so determined that he could listen quietly in his father's war chamber as generals went over plans to sacrifice hundreds of new fire nation soldiers. And because of that, he was forced to defend himself in an Angi Ki. What Zuko hadn't been expecting was that rather than the general he'd insulted, his opponent would be his father, and when he refused to fight him, his fatherdid what any good father would doburned half his face and banished him from the Fire Nation until he could find and capture the avatar, who nobody had seen in a hundred years.
Zuko obsessed over trying to find the avatar and restore his honor and rightful place in his nation, going as far as to rescue the boy from Fire Nation forces in disguise so that he might continue the chase himself. He made rivals with Commander (promoted Admiral... or was it demoted.. thats more likely) Zhaoaka grouchy dude with the sideburns, who's ship he stowed away on after an assassination attempt so that he could sneak into Northern Water Tribe territory (giant steaming fire nation ships are very sneaky, you see.)
After the siege, Zuko and his uncle officially broke their alegence and became fugitives of the Fire Nation. The journeyed through the Earth Kingdom both together and apart, Zuko often using his guise of the Blue Spirit to defend or provide for them where bending would be unacceptable. Azula began hunting both him and Aang, going as far as to strike Iroh with lightning, which made Zuko begin trying (and failing, mostly failing) to learn the technique. In Ba Sing Se he took on the name Lee and worked at a tea shop with Iroh, seeing with new eyes the damage the fire nation had caused to other parts of the world and often passing by chances to exploit the avatar.
Having now taken over Ba Sing Se's security force, Azula captured Katara and Zuko and dumped them underground where they had a touching moment of mutual understandingwhich now makes half the fandom think they have the hots for each other. Azula offered Zuko the chance to fight along side her, take credit for the downfall of the avatar, and return home... and he did it.
Having everything he thought he wanted, Zuko was miserable again. While the avatar and company were attempting an invasion on the Day of Black Sun, Zuko entered his father's chamber with swords drawn, but was help past the eclipse by the story of what happened to his mother. Ozai attempted once more to end Zuko's life (serious dad of the year award here) but Zuko got out and went to join the avatar and his companions.
The entire thing was.. awkward at first. (Rehearsing your speech on a bullfrog just wasn't.. no) He managed to accidentally hurt the only person who'd given him a chance (I mean in his defense Toph snuck up on him when he was sleeping) and it was only when he helped Sokka defeat Combustion Man (the assassin he'd... sort of sent after them when he realized that Azula only gave him credit because she assumed the avatar wasn't dead). After that they went ona series of life changing adventures (dragons, prisons, and bloodbenders oh my), watched a terribly fire nation play about their lives, and oh yeah, won the war against the fire nation. Yeah. No big. Powered by Sozin's comet, Zuko dueled against his sister (the newbat shit crazyfirelord) and would have clearly been the victor if not forthe dirty cheating-the fact that she attempted to attack Katara. Zuko ended up partially redirecting the lighting and taking the rest of it. It was ultimately Katara who defeated Azula and saved his life. After Aang stopped his father from burning the world to the ground and his uncle took over Ba Sing Se (for the right side) he was crowned as firelord and.. yep, thats about it.
THE PLAYER-
PHIPS * FIFTEEN * TWOWARNING: this post is really obnoxious and not necessarily in character. i was going to go to sleep like more than an hour ago, and i had to write posts to amuse both of you, so.. deal with it.
Really, just when Zuko thought he was starting to understand the water tribe boy a little more. Now he simply wondered how he'd gone this long without getting himself killed. If there was one thing he was good at, it was getting under people's skins. There were just some things you didn't say. Of course, he was hardly one to talk about knowing when to keep his mouth shut. (He'd have a reminder of that on his face for the rest of his life.) He'd have probably made a comment just as not-funny as Sokka's was had he been in the other boy's position. But.. that was rational thinking and we weren't doing any of that right now.
Sokka was probably one of the most dramatic people Zuko had ever met. Bested only by his sister (who, if it wasn't obvious, this whole thing had started over). She most certainly wouldn't be pleased if she came back and found even a trace of burned grass two miles down from where they were. So, pleasing her was kind of out of the question. Keeping her from wanting him dead was kind of out of the question. The fire really was becoming a problem though. He could feel the heat from the flames on top of his (already overheated) body temperature, which was only just making the situation worse. And it wasn't the first time this had happened. Thinking how his uncle would have handled the situation, he took a few deep breaths and raised his arm, dropping it quickly over the fire to direct it back at its roots. Firebenders couldn't actually extinguish existing fires (useless, I know) but he could at least contain it where it was meant to be.
Confident that the campsite actually wasn't going to burn down, he took a few steps away, crossed his arms, and shot the other boy a look. "Are you done being an idiot now?" he asked Sokka, once he seemed finished with tirade about... a stick. You'd think he'd have been able to figure out that a burning stick might be hot when you picked it up but- apparently that wasn't as obvious as Zuko thought it'd be. Surely... And this was their only hope at planning a successful invasion against the fire nation.
