THE PERSON-
Ohai. So, that guy right up there, the one wearing the pony-tail? He sort of helped the Avatar save the world. No big deal.
Okay, his name's Sokka, and he can't exactly take credit for the whole ending-the-war thing. But, he really did contribute, even though he was completely opposed to helping out some strange, delusional kid when he first found the Avatar in a block of ice. He did as much as he could, anyway, not being a bender and all. Even though he grew up in the Southern water tribe, Sokka is far from a water bender and is pretty close to normal compared to all the other people around these days. He does have skills that many benders do exhibit, including martial arts, as well as some other abilities he picked up with age, such as weapon handling, mechanics, and strategizing.
Although Sokka has proven himself to be very productively helpful in the use of these skills time and time again, he possesses certain character flaws that tend to overshadow his intelligence. For starters, he's very defensive of his role as a leader. Rooting from the death of his mother, the teenager is and always has been obsessed (for lack of a better term) with leading people to success. He tends to be the person trying to come up with a large portion of the plans, and he feels that he has failed the group when something goes wrong (and it often does, because he doesn't think things through. Character flaw number two. Let's move onto three). Additionally, he can be very stubborn and overconfident, very unwilling to accept help even if he clearly needs it. He prefers to handle things himself, even though this tactic continues to lead him to an embarrassing failure.
If you're thinking that this kid has faced a lot of failure, you're absolutely correct. However, he's had his share of successes. Some better qualities that he displays help him to endure hardships and to achieve what he pursues. He can be selfless, courageous, determined, strong-willed, and charismatic (he wishes). Wit can be listed as a strength or a weakness-- depends on who you're asking. His sister, Katara, will tell you that he makes stupid jokes, and that he's more amusing when he's trying not to be and something goes wrong. Sokka himself will tell you that he's hilarious and clever, which can be true under certain circumstances. It's his inability to realize when it's inappropriate that can drive those around him up a wall.
THE PLAYER-
TILLY * SEVENTEEN * FIVE
It'd be one thing if Sokka could fight back with water, but he had virtually no way of doing so. That in mind, one would think that Zuko could can his temper problem long enough to keep the whole camp from setting on fire. Unfortunately for the water tribe warrior (some warrior he was turning out to be), that was not the case. It almost seemed as if Zuko purposely waited to be alone with Sokka before going off on a tangent and setting off flames in every direction.
Question for Hothead-- how do you think Aang and Katara would feel if they came back to camp with food.. and there was actually a camp to come back to? Because I really don't think they'd hate it that much. Just sayin'. The prince of the Fire Nation's presence wasn't exactly something easy to grow accustomed to, and Sokka was barely making progress in that area lately. Needless to say, the two didn't have attitudes that were cooperative when mixed. Of course, in Zuko's defense, his anger was often Sokka's fault, but that wasn't important.
The boy walked around what remained of their camp, trying to save anything worth saving from the engulfing flames. It didn't seem to be a big deal until he spotted a stick he had sharpened and used to catch fish, burning where Sokka had last left it. He instinctively reached for the piece of wood, only to be reminded that it was on fire. Gah! He jerked his hand back quickly, shaking it in front of him in attempt to cool it down. It's hot! But.. my stick! You--gah! After his mini rampage, he walked over to a tree and sat against it, figuring that there wasn't much else he could do until the others returned. Well, that's what they'd get for leaving him with Zuko.
