18 * MALE * TRAVELER * FIRE BENDER * FIRE NATION
THE PERSON-
PERSONALITY:
Anyone who knows Yi will know of his charitable kindness. It doesn't matter who it is, he will show kindness to all. While he generally keeps to himself, don't be surprised if you see him helping someone in need. When he does help, he will never ask for anything in return, though he will accept anything offered to him. If there's someplace that is quiet and peaceful around, he can usually be found drinking some cold roasted barley tea there, as he loves cold roasted barley tea and peace and quiet. He absolutely loathes going against his word, so if he makes a promise he'll keep it unless there's something making him unable to do so. He has a strong sense of justice, strictly following what he considers right and wrong and his own personal code of honor. He can stay calm and collected in even the worst of situations, something that has helped him many times in the past.
While he is a generally good person, nobody is perfect. He can be extremely stubborn, and once he makes up his mind you will find it extremely difficult to change it. While his kindness may make him a great person, it also makes him self-sacrificing, sometimes getting himself hurt in the process of helping others. He generally tries to keep what he feels to himself, though it's usually not that successful. He isn't one to hold a grudge, that having been said once he thinks that you're not to be trusted he won't be one to trust you that easily. Of course, the opposite is also true, once he thinks your someone he can trust chances are you won't ever lose that trust. He's generally patient, but if he loses his patience he can get very irritated. He also has a temper, while he doesn't have a short fuse certain things (such as trying to justify the wrong the Fire Nation did in the hundred year war) can get him pretty angry.
Oddly enough, despite being from the Fire Nation and being a firebender, Yi can't take food that is too hot or spicy. He also can't stant extreme weather conditions, this includes both extreme cold and extreme heat (not what you'd expect from someone from the Fire Nation or a firebender). No one, including himself, knows why he's like this is, it was just the way he was ever since he was a kid.
HISTORY:
Yi Jing was born on a small island away from the main islands in the Fire Nation. This island, while still technically part of the Fire Nation, was isolated from the rest of the Fire Nation due to the fact that the ocean surrounding it was extremely hazardous, making most sailors want to keep away from the surrounding waters. This allowed the inhabitants to develop a unique culture, the main difference being their strong emphasis on finding inner peace.
Yi Jing started training in both swordfighting and firebending from the age of 5, learning from educational institutions as well as from his parents. By the time he was 15, he was extremely skilled in swordfighting and firebending. He signed up for the army when he was 16, and fought the Earth Kingdom in the 100 years war. When he left for the war, his father gave him a katana that had been passed down his family for generations. While in the military, he continued his unfinished training in the art of the sword and the art of firebending. At the time he signed up, he thought he was doing the right thing, but immediately regretted doing so after his first battle. He hated what the Fire Nation Army was doing, and in his view they were hypocrites committing the worst dishonors possible.
He spend a half a year in the military before making the ultimate decision to desert. He traveled the Earth Kingdom for a long while before running into a few other deserters. Together, they decided that they would stand up for what they thought was right. They called their group the Rōnin, and decided to fight against the Fire Nation armies to try and free the areas of the world under Fire Nation occupation.
During this time, not only did he fight against the Fire Nation Army, but he also developed his own style of firebending. He did this by combining his skill in firebending with his skill in swordfighting, and the result was a form of firebending that compared to traditional firebending was much stronger defensively, while sacrificing some offensive strength.
The Rōnin didn't last very long against the Fire Nation Army. Although at first they were fairly successful, their success was short lived. Their group was at first ignored, and deemed an insignificant threat by the Fire Nation, but their initial success made the Fire Nation military want to eliminate them. A bounty was placed on their heads, causing more skilled fighters to come for them. One by one, the members of the Rōnin were either captured or killed. Yi Jing managed to fake his own death, though by the time he did so he was the last surviving member of the group, the rest having been captured and executed or killed on the spot. In the process of faking his own death though, he was dealt a blow by the firebender after him, permanently scarring the right side of his face.
Yi Jing decided to lay low after that, fearing for his own life. He his in the forests, and made himself a mask to wear while he was out of his hiding spot. He stayed in hiding until Avatar Aang defeated Fire Lord Ozai, and Zuko became Fire Lord. After he heard of the end of the war, he came out of hiding and began a new life as a traveler, wishing to do what he can to help reverse the damage done by the hundred year war in order to make up for what the Fire Nation did to the Earth Kingdom.
ABILITIES:
firebending - Yi Jing has been firebending ever since he was 5, and as a result he's quite skilled in the art. He his skill is close to that of a master, as he can use many advanced firebending techniques. He can also use jets of flames to fly short distances, though this doesn't even compare to what the airbenders can do with their gliders. So no, he can't traverse from one village to another in one go with his jets of flame unless the villages are, quite literally, right next to each other. Also, don't expect him to be making any walls of flame, he can't do this and the last time he tried he lost control of the flames and nearly burned down a whole forest. Having achieved inner peace, Yi Jing can also bend lightning, though he is much less skilled in this technique as he doesn't have much experience with it.
swordsmanship - Yi Jing has also been training in the art of the sword ever since he was 5, making him quite skilled in this art too. Though one definitely can't call him a master, he's well on his way there. He's mastered all the basics, and does relatively well on the advanced forms but he's not even close to mastering them.
"huo jian style" - his own form of firebending that he developed while he was with the Rōnin. It sacrifices some of the offensive strength of traditional firebending in order to replace it with defensive strength. A notable part of this style is that it cannot be performed without a katana as it depends on the katana's cutting power along with firebending's inherent power. The style uses a "flaming sword", which is actually a katana with the blade on fire because of firebending, in most of it's moves. Of course, a katana is made out of metal, so if this style is used continuously for too long or with blue fire then the katana will melt or otherwise deform, and because of the nature of the style maintanence on the katana must be done very frequently in order to prevent it from breaking. Yi Jing is still trying to perfect this style of firebending. Yi Jing did make it, but the style is nowhere near complete, and frankly he could use some help completing it.
THE PLAYER-
Zabuza825 (call me Zabuza or Zab) * 17 * Several years, I haven't been countingAs Yi sipped his roasted barley tea, he looked around him. The forest was quite peaceful really, he enjoyed it very much. He listened to the birds chirping, the water flowing down the river, the wind flowing through the leaves of the trees, it was relaxing. Yi sat there for a moment, taking in everything before sipping his tea again. As he took another sip of his tea, he noticed something in the distance. As he went to get a closer look, he quickly realized that it was a group of Earth Kingdom refugees. They seemed to need help carrying there things to wherever they were going. Yi decided he would help out.
"Do you need some help?" asked Yi as he approached the group of refugees. They responded with a nod. "Where to?" he asked with a smile. The men replied with the name of a nearby village It wasn't too far away, he could easily make it there. Yi nodded and grabbed some of the heavier luggage and began walking with the people, it wasn't much but it was the least he could do after what the Fire Nation invasion and occupation had done to the Earth Kingdom.
